So you want to learn how to read Tarot cards? You’ve come to the right blog post!
As well as being a Soul Catalyst, Intuitive Empath and Psychic….I’m also a self-taught Professional Intuitive Tarot Reader. I say self-taught, because it really is easy and simple to learn to read Tarot cards without having to take months or years!
Why do you want to learn how to read Tarot cards?
Well, why wouldn’t you want to learn how to read Tarot?!?!
Tarot is a brilliant divination tool and is something that has fascinated me for nearly 30 years! I bought my first deck when I was around 12 – I used to love going to the local bookshop and hanging out in the holistic section!
It’s something that I didn’t pick back up again for a long time…mainly because I couldn’t connect with the cards that I’d bought. At the time, I didn’t understand the importance of choosing cards that resonated with me, which felt good to me…and most importantly…that spoke to me visually.
Tarot cards allow you to ask questions of yourself/the Universe/your Spirit team etc to gain guidance. They are not there to predict the future…because all readings are based on current energy…and energy is always evolving. That’s why it’s super important to remember that you always have free will when it comes to the guidance of the cards. They can be used to gain clarity on a particular situation/question and to understand what the possible outcome is if you stay in your current energy and on your current path.
Why do people get so overwhelmed with learning to read Tarot?
For a start, there are 78 cards. Yes…78. And they all have their own unique meanings plus their meanings combined with other cards. So this can make people feel a little overwhelmed as to how to remember every single meaning. And that’s not even including Reverse meanings…that’s a whole other learning curve! LOL!
And yet the easiest way to learn how to read Tarot cards is to combine the overall meaning of each card…with your intuition.
Because we all have intuition. It’s just that some of us have developed our intuition further and are more in tune with it. But that’s why when you learn how to read Tarot cards, you can improve and strengthen your intuition!
What do the cards mean?
Without going into too much detail in a blog post (otherwise I’ll be typing forever LOL…that’s why I created my Tarot For Beginners video course priced at $47 to teach on all the different cards with over 3 hours of video content in bite-sized videos, check it out here: Tarot For Beginners) here is a general overview of the cards.
Tarot is divided into 2 sections:
- The Major Arcana (22 cards)
- The Minor Arcana (56 cards)
Arcana means secrets. So basically, big and little secrets. With secrets referring to the messages contained within the cards. The Major Arcana references big changes, milestones, things to take note of such as marriage/divorce/job changes/travel/pregnancy/major events in your life etc. Whereas the Minor Arcana refers to everyday occurances and people we come into contact with.
The Minor Arcana is divided into 4 suits with 14 cards in each suit from Ace to King:
which in turn represent the for elements of: Water, Earth, Fire and Air.
Once you start to understand these basics, such as the different suits and what each number refers to (i.e. 2s are about balance, duality, partnership etc) then you start to gain a better understanding of the cards as a whole.
Why is it so important to choose cards you connect with?
Now that may sound like an obvious question to ask, but you’d be surprised at how many people just rush out to buy any old pack of cards, then get confused and put them in a drawer somewhere because they can’t understand them.
As I’ve mentioned, this is the exact thing I did with my first deck of Tarot cards. But then again I was only 12 or something!
Choosing a deck of cards is a very personal experience. It depends on how much of a visual person you are, how connected you are to imagery, how much imagery you like, whether you prefer cards with people / animals / fairies / dragons etc or those with no visuals to work with.
There are literally hundreds of Tarot card decks available to buy. I’m taking a guess there…but I know there are lots!!! I have 10 myself – but only use 7 of them because I can’t connect with the other 3.
What are the best Tarot cards for beginners?
The most popular deck of Tarot cards for beginners are the Rider Waite*** cards. These are very well-illustrated, easy to understand and provide a much needed visual reference to interpret the cards with. They are great for beginners because of the imagery used and it’s not overcomplicated imagery as with some decks.
The Rider Waite cards are the 2nd deck of Tarot cards that I bought which I really connected with and are what I used to learn how to read Tarot cards.
You’ll also find that each deck of cards comes with it’s own guide book with a general or indepth overview of the Tarot cards.
Personally, I prefer to learn via video, it’s how I became a self-taught Tarot Reader. Yes, I used the books initally and would also Google meaning, but my go-to learning platform was watching Tarot Readers on YouTube and combining this with my own knowledge of the cards from the books and my intuition.
Why read Tarot cards intuitively?
As I’ve mentioned already, learning how to read Tarot cards is a great way to develop and strengthen your intuition. Of course, when you first start learning how to read Tarot cards, you will be drawn to reading the guide book your cards come with, watching videos or searching for the their meanings on Google. But, as you become more confident, you’ll start to natually develop a keen intuitive knowledge of each card.
Every card has it’s own unique meaning but the meaning can (and usually is) influenced by the other cards around it and what your intuition is telling you. That’s why it’s so important to choose a deck of Tarot cards that you truly connect with and have a strong awareness with.
It’s also important to go with the first thing that comes to you…that initial thought that you have in a split second…because this is your intuition/Higher Self/Spirit Guides giving you guidance…before your logical mind kicks in and dismisses it.
As you progress with learning how to read Tarot cards, you’ll find that you just glide through readings with your knowledge of the Tarot cards. The quicker you learn to trust your intuition, the faster you’ll learn how to read Tarot and the easier it will become.
Are you ready to learn how to read Tarot?
First, things first, go on Google or Pinterest and look at the different cards available. I highly recommend the Rider Waite*** deck for beginners and those with some experience. If these cards don’t appeal to you, then choose a deck that sparks some interest in you such as decks about fairies, dragons, animals, Manga, simple illustrations etc.
As I’ve already mentioned, for those looking to take their Tarot knowledge to the next level, as a Professional Tarot Reader, Intuitive Empath and Psychic, I’ve created an easy-to-follow Tarot For Beginners video course which contains 86 mini bite-sized videos covering what Tarot is and isn’t, how to read Tarot intuitively, ethics when reading for others and individual videos for all 78 cards. This only course is priced at just $47 and is yours to access for life so you can keep referring back to it. You can find the course by clicking here. It also comes with downloadable PDFs including my FREE guide to Understanding the 22 Major Arcana which is available to download here.
